Pack Mentality

Look between the “y” in “by” and the “M” in “Marriott” on the street sign outside Rudy’s Bar & Grill at the corner of Chapel and Howe streets in downtown New Haven and you’ll spy a small sticker bearing the motto “ALCIDE THE WOLF HAS A PACK.”

This is of course a take-off on Shepard Fairey’s  famous “ANDRE THE GIANT HAS A POSSE.” You’ll still occasionally find examples of that original phenomenological sticker-art stunt around New Haven, which was one of the first cities it travelled to after starting in Providence Rhode Island in 1989.

The actor who plays Alcide Herveaux the werewolf on the HBO series True Blood, Joe Manganiello, is of course currently turning heads at the Yale Repertory Theatre as Stanley Kowalski in Mark Rucker’s production of Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire.

Streetcar runs through Oct. 12. The wolf pack doubtless will run longer.
