We’d go to parties. We hide there too. Some with a book or magazine, plus a bottle, in the corner. Some with someone fresh we were ogling. Some with dashed hopes. One comes to a party upbeat, expecting that encounters there may change one’s mood, turn one’s life around. Then one remembers whom one is. Shy and withdrawn. A hider.
