Pipes were a place. Big concrete pipes at construction sites in city neighborhoods. We once slept for hours in one of those, on the long walk back from Cambridge to Winchester after seeing Sam & Dave perform at Jonathan Swift’s. The horn of a bulldozer awoke us.
